Peter Luger's
Tonight was a joyous occasion. I had dinner at Peter Luger's Steakhouse. Peter Luger's has the honor of winning Zagat's Best Steakhouse in NYC 16 years in a row (or something crazy like that). I have to agree with the choice. Honestly the steak was so awesomely scrupmtious that I cried.
Have you ever had something in your mouth that literally melted, outside of marzipan cream or warm butter on a biscuit? Ok, maybe that's not a fair question since no one ever can describe marzipan. One more time... Have you ever had a piece of meat melt like a Kit-Kat in July? The second I bit into the steak I said to myself "sonofabitch [chew] this is the best damn thing I've ever tasted".
What's better is that there are hardly any choices on the well-weathered menu. Nothing to be confused by. Just a waiter (nearly 100% male staff) count how many people at your table and take drink orders. The penned prices for the beef are just peachy with me as I'm most certain Peter Luger's is essentially what "market price" abides by. The creme of spinach and hashed potato sides (again, really no choice here) were also entirely too scrumptious.
I'm full (to the second power) right now and my stomach feel's like it's going to burst with splendor and happiness. The delicious USDA prime on-site butcher cut medium rare porterhouse sliced into medium rare mouth watering shanks are painfully delicious. The layers were so distinct on the steak that it looked like a beef layer cake. I don't even remember there being salt and pepper or any other condiments outside of their own famous dipping sauce - which is wholly unncessary. As the waiter delivered the steak to my plate he was sure to pour a ladle of the steak-juices and say "this one's for the heart surgeons". Brilliant.
The pub-like casual atmosphere made it that much better. For dessert? A $142 meal ticket (no appetizers or drinks). Ouch.
No wonder their waitlist is as long as it is... It was told to me that weekend dinner tables require one month's notice. I barely even got us a 9pm Monday night seat. Yeesh.
