It Won’t Be Soon Before Long - Maroon 5

Tuesday, May 22, 2007 by eric yang

If you're interested in winning a free copy of this CD, it might be worth 2.5 seconds of your time and popping over to Gear Patrol and entering the giveaway for an advanced copy of the CD. Advanced copy doesn't really matter so much now that the CD's actually out, but hey - a free CD is a free CD... is a free CD.

Oh, and the new CD is pretty damn good. It's a departure from their last one, but a good one.

Listen To This: Thirteen Senses

Thursday, March 15, 2007 by eric yang

Remember the band, Travis? Remember when Coldplay was good? Remember in the 90's when half the bands you loved were British or wannabe Brit's? Well, that 'era' really never stopped for me. Of course, my hair reflects otherwise but who's counting?

As my quest continues to find music that isn't thrust upon me thru the American Idol marketing juggernaut, or Grey's Anatomy soundtrack supervisors I came across this fine group called 'Thirteen Senses'. Click here to visit their myspace page. The song "Lights Out" (no, not a remake of Westside Connection's anthem) was what I wanted to plug. Alas, it wasn't to be found on imeem. Bastards.

Listen To This: Youth Group - "Forever Young"

Tuesday, March 06, 2007 by eric yang

So, I was listening to this song before I realized it had been vaulted into the market machine, that was, The O.C. So bear with me on this recommendation... If you ever heard the old school song "Forever Young" (and not the Rod Stewart ballad) by Alphaville then you'll definitely dig the remake.

(Review from Rolling Stone)

Australian rockers Youth Group first reached American audiences on The O.C., doing a cover of a decrepit Eighties oldie, Alphaville's "Forever Young." Dude -- that wasn't even Alphaville's best song! "Big in Japan," my man! But even if The O.C. is history, Youth Group are destined for hugeness. On their third album, they wield massive choruses, stadium-ready production and the keening vocals of Toby Martin. He may sing like Coldplay's Chris Martin (no relation), but with "Let It Go" and "Start Today
Tomorrow," he's singing better tormented-lover-boy rock ballads than Coldplay have managed in years. "Sorry" is their best, as Martin bombards his ex with questions: "Did you find what you were looking for in Room Thirteen on the sixteenth floor?/. . . Did you find what you were looking for in the silence between his snores?/. . . Do you find these European handball players beautiful?" In a post-O.C. world, Youth Group keep the fires burning.

Listen To This: Eric James & The New Century

Thursday, February 15, 2007 by eric yang

What's up with my recommendations? Well I don't know. Someone mentioned that I should start sharing more of what it is that I'm listening/reading/watching/making/doing. So I'm obliging. Anyway, something that I've had repeating on the ol' iPod-aramus-prime is Eric James & The New Lights.

I would best describe his album (it's only an EP) as a cross between Death Cab for Cutie, Pete Yorn (bear with me now...), and Coldplay. I know, egads that I would dare use Coldplay as reference but I am so there, deal with it.

If you don't feel like playing the $5 dollar admission to get his full EP on iTunes then take a swing over to Eric James & the New Century's myspace page and take a listen for yourself. Yuppie? Yes. Contemporary? Yes. Will you listen to it? Yes.

Campaign 08-nouveau

Tuesday, February 13, 2007 by Bradley Hasemeyer

So this is a little something I've been working on. I am trying to get a few friends together to shoot the video BUT at this point all I have is the audio.

The audio to what?

I redid "Sexy Back" and made it "Al Gore is Coming Back." A song built completely on the prospect that Mr. Gore will be making a run for president this coming elections.

Please send the link to all your friends you think would enjoy this and especially those who have connections with the entertainment industry.

Enjoy.

Al Gore Back

Al Gore is coming back (yep)
Could be a presidential candidate (yep)
On Global Warming we’ll cut him some slack (yep)
Cuz it’s burning up in here and that’s a fact (yep)

Take em to the bridge

(bridge)
Al Gore, babe
Could put your name in, cuz it’s not too late
From Tennessee but you won’t win your state
I think OBamas’ got it anyway

Take em to the chorus

(chorus)
Go ahead Al, (go ahead and run for it)
Tipper and a kiss (go ahead and run for it)
Once VP (go ahead and run for it)
Oscar nominee (go ahead and run for it)
Lemme see who you’re up against (go ahead and run for it)
Bunch of broken hips (go ahead and run for it)
Democratic style (staaal) (go ahead and run for it)
Go head Al and get your candidacy on
Get your candidacy on (repeat)

Al Gore is coming back (yep)
And all the pundints don’t know how to act (yep)
With hanging chads you almost had Iraq
Got my vote—you started the internet

Take em to the bridge

Greenland & Missing Pages

Friday, February 02, 2007 by Aziz

Hey everybody. I have a shout-out...or two, rather. I know it's early, being one my first posts, but bear with me here. I think you'll enjoy both of these bands. They are both unique, and you can catch them in different parts of the country if you're interested. As a well-documented wannabe (that's me), I'm confident that these guys are going to make it on their own terms (based off hard work and burgeoning popularity), respectively, which combined with their talent is reason enough to listen. This is me shouting, listen up:

Greenland recently won the 2006 YouTube Underground Contest for "Best Song" -it's a big deal, check it out (not to mention it was a top 10 video). They were on Good Morning America with Diane Sawyer and everything (she's Kentuckian, trust her). Since their lead singer Evan is a friend and former classmate of Eric and yours truly, it's fair to say that Midweekpost will be keeping a close eye on them. If you're ever in Nashville or hear that they're in a city near you, go check 'em out and let them know about it. They rock.

Missing Pages is out Pittsburgh, PA. I'm pitching these guys because they are on the brink of a record deal (literally, they're good), are looking to hire (which is hard to believe), and the drummer is my close friend's cousin (they're nice people). This is a timely post, because they're in a contest of their own to win a global record deal with Epic Records (among other cool stuff), and could use your vote (check it out). The last time I checked they were in the top 40, but despite being in the running I don't think it will be long before they get a deal off merits alone. That said, oddly enough (and I don't know what the full story here is), they need a bassist and keyboardist, so if you've got the skills get a hold of them! They regularly play in Pittsburgh, and have already played gigs with Bret Michaels of Poison and Def Leppard (hold the 9 arms jokes). I often like to use the old, often-forgotten PBS ad, "Books. Check 'em out!" for nothing more than its raw, yet purely genious, and inspiring phraseology. Well (forgive me Missing Pages), do just that -they're worth it.

After you take a listen and get to know these guys, it's obvious that neither of these bands need my help. I'm just spreading the gospel because these bands are "doing it the right way" and deserve all the attention they're getting. Enjoy (you can thank me later when you start telling your buddies, "Yeah, I knew them back in the day...").

About

Midweekpost.com is a take on New York City thru the eyes (and camera) of an OCD, ADD, Scorpio written in the timeless, Thoreau inspired, form of blogging. Or as we like to refer to it: ADD writing for ADD reading. It's authored by a most contradictive guy armed with a most applicable Univ. of Tennessee economics degree working in the media industry as a producer (you're damn right that's cliche') of design (huh?) for a major broadcast company's digital initiative (say wha?) that has somehow managed to find his Korean, yet not Korean looking self living in the city that Ambien & Cosmo induced coma never sleeps. All that said, I don't promise greatness and I won't promise awesome but I will promise New York and a little dash o' me.
